Cornus kousa ‘Rosy Teacups’

Cornus kousa ‘Rosy Teacups’

Origin: Korea, Japan. Large shrub or small deciduous tree with erect, spreading main branches; lateral branches in layers, increasingly horizontal with time. Ovate leaves 5-9 cm, rather undulating, deep green above, bluish underneath, in autumn turning yellow and scarlet. Flowers in May-June, about 20 days after C. florida – small, dense, greenish-yellow, surrounded by four lovely bracts, 8-9 cm broad, followed by edible fruits, similar to pink raspberries, borne on long stalks. Likes cool, slightly acid terrain. Does not thrive in chalky soils or with stagnant water. Attractive red-pinkish overlapping bracts that emerge plentiful in May – June out of the green leaves.
